Engaging in Battle: “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. TOMORROW march down against them…Take up your positions, stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you.” 2 Chron 20:15,17
King Jehoshaphat and all of Judah knew there was a vast army that was going to come against them. Statistics would tell them that they had a slim chance of survival. Under these types of conditions, the best military strategy would be to take a defensive position and try to survive as long as possible. But they called a fast and sought the Lord and the Lord gave them a different plan. They were told to go into battle immediately. Tomorrow!…without any preparation or strategizing, they were to march right toward the enemy. Without the Lord, this would have been certain death to the entire army. But the Lord told them He would fight the battle if they were obedient to take up their offensive position by marching out to face the enemy the next day. And the Lord did just that. By the time the army of Judah came to the place the Lord had told them to march to, the vast enemy army was just a heap of dead bodies lying on the ground. Not one was left alive! This is the God we serve!
It seems like much of the church often fights from a defensive position. We wait for the battles to come to us and then we ask the Lord for His protection. We then fight defensively. But in a defensive stance, we never take territory…we can only defend what we already have. I know there are times when we need to take a defensive stand against enemy attacks, and I do believe the Lord helps in those times. But we have been created to “rule and reign…to take dominion” as the Word tells us in Genesis 1. And we can’t rule and take dominion from a defensive position. As kingly priests under the lordship of Jesus, we have been commissioned to “go and make disciples of every nation”. Jesus tells us to “seek His kingdom”. (Luke 12:31) The word “seek” in the Greek actually means to demand or require. It is quite difficult to demand or require the expansion of a kingdom from a defensive position. We must engage in the offensive! And I believe the time is NOW!
“To live like this is all the more urgent, for time is running out and you know it is a strategic hour in human history. It is time for us to wake up! For our full salvation is nearer now than when we first believed…And once and for all we clothe ourselves with the radiance of light as our WEAPON!” (Rom 13:12 TPT)
We are now in an “awakening time” where the Lord is calling His army into battle. There is a trumpet being blown and it is time to go to war. Let the words of King Jehoshaphat be our prayer: “We don’t know what to do, but our eyes are on you and our ears are attentive to you Lord!”
