Living as Light – Doing The Stuff

“You are the light of the world…Let your good works shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” – Matt 5:14,16

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light. For the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.” – Eph 5:8-9

I was so encouraged this past Sunday as we pressed into a greater understanding and activation of living according to the Great Commission in Matthew and the mandate in 2 Corinthians 5:17-20 which becomes part of our identity as a “new creation in Christ”.   It was great to see everyone so engaged and actively participating and encouraging one another!

It is amazing that we serve a God who not only created the planets, the stars, the moon, and specifically the earth, but he also created each of us as a chosen people that God, the supreme ruler of the universe, wants to have relationship with…to the point that He wants us to become a dwelling place for Him.  That blows my mind!  And THEN, if that is not enough, He invites us to participate in the completion of His works and plan for all people through His Son Jesus Christ…for “all to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus!” (1 Tim 2:4-5)

And so God, because of this plan and His great love for us, sent His Son into the earth…not to be served, but to serve mankind and to teach us how to participate in God’s plan, and then He died for us to enact God’s plan…the New Covenant.  During His short time on earth, He taught us so much…including how to become “fishers of men”, “ministers of reconciliation”, “ambassadors of Christ”, “the light of the world”, and “a people belonging to God to declare His praises”…with the goal of us being imitators of Christ on earth. “Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.” (1 John 2:6)

Now living this life would be absolutely impossible, if it weren’t for the fact that Jesus, after being resurrected from the grave and glorified in heaven, sent us the Spirit of God to dwell within us and give us divine supernatural power to live our lives according to God’s invitation and plan –  according to the life of Christ!

With all this said, I want to go back to something I shared last Sunday that was heartbreaking. According to a Barna survey, only 17% of church-goers know what the Great Commission is.  My prayer for each of us is that we would not only know this command of Jesus, but also live our lives by it!  I asked a final question at the end of Sunday’s service… “How are you PERSONALLY going to modify your daily lifestyle to better align and walk in obedience to these Scriptures?”  This coming Sunday, I would love to hear testimonies from many of you of what God did this past week through you as you modified your lifestyle to walk in greater alignment with the Scriptures and commands of Jesus…making disciples, teaching others the commands of Jesus, sharing Jesus with others, laying hands on the sick, praying for the lost and hurting, loving someone through compassionate actions, or any other act in the footsteps of Jesus.  And if you haven’t started, it’s only Wednesday!  😊

In the words of John Wimber, “You see, it’s DOING THE STUFF that is going to change the world. It’s not knowing it was done once.  It’s not knowing that it’s important.  It’s doing it that is going to change the world.  Somewhere, someplace, somebody’s got to start believing this Book and acting on it!  And I figure it might as well be us.”

Let’s start DOING THE STUFF and changing the world…starting with Colorado!  I love you all and will be praying for opportunities, encounters, boldness, courage, power, and authority in Christ as we walk as light, DO THE STUFF and play our part in the Kingdom of Light!
