    Follow the Leader

    Hi Rock Family,

We all remember the grade-school game of “follow the leader.” The goal was simple: do whatever the leader was doing. Each person followed the one in front of them, trying to mimic their actions. Even if they couldn’t see the leader directly, they trusted that by following closely, they were still doing what the leader was doing. Yet as the line grew longer, the accuracy of each follower’s actions gradually diminished.

As I have been praying and seeking the Lord for this Sunday, He has been highlighting the importance of knowing Him as the Good Shepherd and of following Him closely. In John 10:14, Jesus says, “I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me.” Just prior to this, He describes the relationship between a shepherd and his sheep: “He goes before the sheep, and they follow Him, for they know His voice” (John 10:4)

For many of us, following Jesus is not a new idea. However, I wonder if there are times when we begin to follow someone else who is following Jesus, and over time, we drift farther from the Good Shepherd than we realize. When distance from Him increases, we can quickly lose the sound of His voice leading and directing our steps. In doing so, we may find ourselves in a dangerous position, far from the Good Shepherd.

We are in a unique time in history, and as Pastor Matt shared two Sundays ago, there is a war for our attention. Who we choose to follow right now is of utmost importance. I want to encourage you to re-evaluate what and who has your attention in this season. As difficult times increase in both intensity and frequency, we must learn to closely follow the Good Shepherd so that we are not led astray. “So let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith…” (Hebrews 12:2).

As we wrap up three days of prayer and fasting, my prayer is that you would be strengthened in your faith and continually reminded that as you listen to Him and follow Him, He will lead your life as the Good Shepherd. There is no better direction than the way He leads. May it become evident that the brief moments of weakness and suffering we face in this life are tuning our listening ears to His quiet and still voice that leads us through every season and situation.

Eph 3:16  “I pray that out of the riches of His glory, He may strengthen you with power through His spirit in your inner being!”

Psalm 23:1,6  “The Lord is my Shepherd…Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life…”

I am looking forward to sharing with you this Sunday for Mother’s Day.  To all the moms reading this – We Love You & Happy Mother’s Day.  We wouldn’t be here without you – literally. 🙂
