The Promise of Rest

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
 – Matthew 11:28 CSB

Last Sunday, Pastor Mike talked about busyness in his message, “The Affection of God Versus the Deceitfulness of Busyness”. This weekend, I want to build on that theme by looking at the promise of Jesus in Matthew 11, “I will give you rest”. It’s a unique promise that seems to be offered to a haggard, stressed, or anxious listener; and it hangs on the invitation to “Come to me [Jesus]”. 

This Sunday, our first of the month “Family Sunday”, I’ll set the stage for our group discussions by unpacking this verse and its context, as well as looking at its practical application to our lives. One of my favorite things about God is that, while we can develop theories about Him, He isn’t theoretical. His words and His ways are deeply applicable, and should shape every area of our life; including our mental health, our calendar, and how our soul is refreshed. 

And speaking of busyness and rest, our Altar Initiative is almost over. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to come to Jesus and receive His rest because you are too busy. There are only three more corporate prayer times: Thursday at 6:30am, Thursday at 5pm, Friday at 6:30am, and our Special Friday Altar Night Potluck & Praise at 5pm. RSVP to let us know you’re coming, bring a side dish, and join us in celebrating all that God has done throughout October.
