The Rock Weekly – April 3, 2024

Delight Yourself In The Lord…And He Will Delight In You

Psalm 37:4 “DELIGHT yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

New Testament version of this verse:  John 15:7  “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”

In this final day of the 3-day fast, the Lord has been opening the eyes or our heart in amazing ways!  My heart is so encouraged by His plans and purposes for The Rock and for the Colorado Church.  I have been filled with such joy…in the midst of a weak body from a lack of food!  But I love the words of Jesus in John 4 when the disciples are concerned that Jesus hasn’t eaten and say, “Rabbi, eat something.” (vs 31) And Jesus replies, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work.” (vs 34) Jesus delighted Himself in the Father – to do His will and the Father responded back with great delight in His Son!  “For the Father loves the Son and shows Him ALL He does.” (Jn 5:20)  

I want to encourage you every day to ‘eat what is good’!  Take hold of the bread of life, the Word of the Lord and LIVE BY HIS WORDS…DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD!   Isaiah 55:2 tells us that we will eat what is good when we come to the Lord and LISTEN carefully to His words.  His promise is that our soul will live and DELIGHT in the abundance and fullness of life in Him!

Lord Jesus, I pray that we would draw near to you and give ear to your words and truth that we may take hold of every word you give us and treat it as precious gold.  May we fully trust in you Lord and commit our ways to you – that you would make our righteous acts shine like the dawn, and the justice of our cause like the noonday sun! For righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne!  Amen.

 

This Sunday is our Family Breakfast at 9am followed by a special service with an interactive and relational format.  We will focus our discussion on the ‘great commission’ Jesus leaves us with in Matthew 28:19-20 and the clarifying mandate Apostle Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 5:17-20.  I want to encourage you to DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD as you meditate on these Scriptures and answer the questions below in preparation for Sunday. My hope this Sunday is that the Holy Spirit will enlighten our hearts with greater spiritual wisdom and understanding of God’s will and our purpose on this earth as followers of Jesus. 

 

QUESTIONS to consider as you read Matthew 28:19-20 and 2 Corinthians 5:17-20:

  1. Can you break down the Matthew 28 Commission into 4 commands?
  2. On a 1-10 scale, how would you rate your daily routine as aligning with the commands of the Matthew 28 Commission?
  3. In reading 2 Cor 5:17-20, Apostle Paul lays out the purpose of the new believer in Jesus.  What is it?
  4. What does it mean to be a minister of reconciliation and an ambassador of Christ?
  5. After meditating on these Scriptures and answering questions 1-4, how are you going to modify your daily lifestyle to better align and walk in obedience to these Scriptures?

 

I love you all and am so encouraged by the increased hunger and thirst for more of Jesus and less of the desires of the world that I have seen in many of you!  May we remain firmly in Christ!
