Keep The End in Mind

“The seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven saying,

‘The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign forever and ever.’ ”      – Revelation 11:15 CSB

As we’ve been discussing evangelism, making disciples, and the Great Commission, I find it helpful to keep the end in mind. This passage in Revelation paints a clear picture of what will happen at the end. This is just one tiny snippet of a much larger happening, but this verse is a great reminder that someday the kingdom of the world (not only nations, but the entire world’s system) will become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ. God will take his great power and begin to reign.

When I lose sight of this eternal and final reality, it becomes easy for me to get swept up in earthly things. It’s easy to get caught up in the swirl of news, global conflicts, politics, and entertainment. Paul reminds us in 2 Timothy 2 not to get caught up in civilian affairs, but serve as a soldier to please our commanding officer…Jesus!  Now, obviously we still need to vote and care about what happens in our communities. But may we not get so caught up in the world’s system that we lose sight of our marching orders.

When I reorient myself to the truth that one day Jesus is coming back as a conquering king, it helps me to prioritize my life appropriately. Things like career, sports, the size of my house, or the model-year of my car, seem less important when compared to the Heavenly Treasures we store up when we are obedient to the great commission. And a gospel presentation to a stranger seems less strange when I understand the reality of a fast approaching eternity.

Father God, help us today to live with an eternal perspective, remembering that someday soon Jesus will return and conquer the world. Don’t let us fall into selfishness that says, “Well, I’m saved so all is well,”; but instead, fill us with your love and compassion that desires that all people would be saved. We pray that your incredible love (and a sober-mindedness towards the great and terrible day of the Lord) would motivate us to love our neighbors by presenting the Gospel so they also can have eternal life.

We are praying for you to live richly blessed and full of faith as you walk in obedience to the commands of Jesus.
Have a great week,

Pastor Andrew & Your Rock Staff
