The Guarantee of Our Eternal Inheritance

Dear Rock Family,

This Family Sunday, I’m excited to begin opening up some of what I’ve been studying and praying into recently concerning the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

The ministry of the Holy Spirit is wonderfully rich and deeply necessary for the life of the believer. He comforts us (John 14:16–17), leads us (Romans 8:14), empowers us (Acts 1:8), gives gifts to the church (1 Corinthians 12:4–7), produces visible fruit through lives of love, service, witness, prayer, and discipleship (John 15:8–13; Acts 1:8; Galatians 5:22–23), and helps us walk faithfully with Jesus day by day (Galatians 5:16). There is far more here than we could ever capture in a single email, but I want to highlight one theme that has especially been stirring my heart: The Holy Spirit is the pledge and guarantee of our future resurrection and inheritance.

The Apostle Paul says that the Holy Spirit is the “guarantee of our inheritance” until we acquire possession of it (Ephesians 1:13–14). He also says that the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead will give life to our mortal bodies (Romans 8:11).

This means the Holy Spirit is not only present with us in this age; He is the living pledge of the age to come. He is God’s assurance that those who belong to Christ will be raised, restored, and brought into the fullness of the kingdom when Jesus returns.

This Sunday, we’ll look at several beautiful aspects of the Holy Spirit’s ministry and how He works in us, among us, and through us as the people of God. As we prepare our hearts, I encourage you to take time this week to pray: 

“Holy Spirit, reveal Jesus more clearly to me, deepen my love for Him, and teach me to walk faithfully as I wait for His return. Amen.”
