Encouragement & Strength For The Work

Hello Rock church family, 

This week I am borrowing a prayer from the Apostle Paul and praying that you receive encouragement and strength in every good work and word. 

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 CSB
“May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal encouragement and good hope by grace, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good work and word.”

Not only has God already given us eternal encouragement, but Paul prays that we would continue to be encouraged and strengthened. What gracious gifts! Eternal encouragement (Heaven and eternity with God) and encouragement now (the Holy Spirit). 

However, the funny thing about encouragement is that it’s most valuable when you’re feeling discouraged; strength is most helpful when you’re feeling weak or fatigued. I’ve mentioned before that the Christian life is like an ultra-marathon, and in those long years of running well until we finish the race (2 Timothy 4:7) we need God’s eternal encouragement and immediate encouragement & strength. 

As we prepare our hearts for Sunday, one of the things I want God to encourage and strengthen us for our Christian Duty. We know from Ephesians 2:10 that God has prepared good works for us to fulfill in Christ. I want to unpack some of these good works and responsibilities that God has given us. My hope is that we can adopt the posture of a soldier (2 Timothy 2:3-4) and approach these duties with an attitude that says, “It’s an honor to serve,” 

I look forward to celebrating Father’s Day with you all.
