Stewarding The Father’s Love
Hello Rock Family,
A couple of Sunday’s ago, the message hit on the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25) and our call to faithfully steward what God has entrusted to us. Since then, the Lord continued to speak to my heart about this truth. I am realizing that, regardless of what we have, we are often quick to ask the Lord for more. The world trains us to think this way – to always pursue a little bit more – even when we are not faithfully stewarding what we already have. Take a moment right now and ask the Lord, “What have You already given me that I could steward more faithfully?”
If you are like me, you may begin making a list, and it might be a little convicting. I started listing the many gifts the Lord has entrusted to me: an amazing wife, children, and extended family; a home surrounded by wonderful neighbors and friends; millions of dollars (OK…I don’t have that one yet. 😊); my health, strength, and a creative mind; an incredible staff; and a beautiful congregation of believers who love Jesus – just to name a few. Not to mention that I have been given the Holy Spirit and God’s Word.
So the question I am now asking myself is, “How am I currently stewarding what God has given me?” Amazingly, I am discovering that I have countless opportunities to become a better steward of what God has already entrusted to me.
In the parable of the talents, Jesus gives us a glimpse of our heavenly Father’s desire that we steward well what He has given us AND that as we are faithful, He will entrust us with even more!
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” – Matt 25:23
This brings me to the heart of what the Lord has been speaking to me. The greatest gift our heavenly Father has given us is His LOVE! Therefore, the greatest stewardship focus of our lives should be the Father’s love! While we may understand this intellectually, faithfully stewarding the Father’s love requires that our actions speak louder than our words.
“Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue, but with ACTIONS and in truth.” (1 John 3:18)
I believe that as we enter into the last days of this age, the Holy Spirit is preparing to pour out a greater sovereign wave of the Father’s love and a deep conviction upon His Church that will awaken the hearts of followers of Jesus to the revelation and realization of who they truly are – dearly loved children of the heavenly Father. And because we are His children, we MUST steward His love well in the time we have been given. I believe this will be an essential part of the coming great harvest and the final days before Christ’s return.
God’s Word beautifully defines the Father’s love and how we are to steward it:
- “This is how we know what Love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we must lay down our lives for our brothers.” – 1 John 3:16
- “This is love: not that we have loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also must love one another.” – 1 John 4:11
- “This is love: that we walk in obedience to His commands. As you have heard from the beginning, His command is that you walk in love.” – 2 John 6
1 Corinthians 13:1-3 tells us repeatedly that if we do not steward God’s love, everything else we do in this life is meaningless. And 1 John 4:7-8 tells us that love comes from God and that when we steward the Father’s love by loving others with His love, we demonstrate to the world that we have been born of God and know God. But those who do not steward the Father’s love, by loving others with His love, do not truly know Him.
Lord Jesus, give us the strength, awareness, and power of the Spirit to faithfully steward well the love that You have shown us and poured into our hearts. May we steward our days by loving You well as we love those around us with the very love you have given to us! And when our days are done, may we hear the words, “Well done good and faithful servant of My love!” AMEN
I love you all and pray you have a fresh love encounter with the Father this week!
