Your Story Is Being Written Right Now – MAKE IT AMAZING!

“Awake, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. BE VERY CAREFUL HOW YOU LIVE – not as unwise, but as wise, making the most of every opportunity…”  Ephesians 5:14-16

Though we are now living in this world, God makes it clear that many are actually asleep and missing the purpose and destiny of the life God has so intricately designed for us specifically!   God is calling His creation to awaken from being lulled to sleep by this world.  This ‘lulling to sleep’ happens through the enticing desires of the flesh, the desires of our eyes (distractions), the busyness of life, and the pride of life as John pens in 1 John 2:15.  Jesus tells us in the parable of the Sower & The Seed that worries, fear, cares, and desire for worldly pleasures and riches will quickly choke out the fruitfulness of our God-given purpose on the earth.  God also shows through His Word that our days are numbered and designed by God. (Ps 139:14-16)  And Ephesians 2:10 tells us that “We are God’s masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”   So the question we must ask ourselves is… Am I walking out EACH DAY according to God’s design and plan for me – doing the good works that I was created for?  Or am I allowing the world to overwhelm me through cares, worries, fear, busyness, distractions, and desires for worldly success, riches, and pleasures?

We only live for a very short time on this earth.  Psalm 102:11 says our days are like the evening shadow; we wither away like grass.  This would sound depressing if we didn’t see the bigger picture – that we will have eternity with our Lord Jesus!

(2 Cor 4:16-18 MSG) “So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.”

So let us keep a heavenly perspective and make the most of every opportunity while we can!  Especially during times when things don’t go the way we planned or things happen that are difficult for us to handle. My concern is that we often try to work things out in our own strength, or sometimes, like a turtle, we just try to hide in our shell and wait for things to get better.  But I believe when the difficult times come and when things happen that we don’t expect, we have a better choice…and that is to trust in the Lord with everything – with our heart, our understanding, and our strength.  If God has ordained EVERY day for us, then that means the difficult times are included.

One of my favorite ‘non-Bible’ quotes is from J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings in a conversation between Gandalf and Frodo during a very difficult time.  “I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.

PRAYER:  LORD, Awaken us as your people to the intimacy and the power of your Holy Spirit to lead us into the plans and purposes of our lives.  May we walk by faith – having ears to hear, tender and surrendered hearts, and the action of following you even before understanding – that we would be known by You as sons (children) of God.  MAY WE NOT allow the enemy to steal, kill, or destroy even a single moment of the time we have been given on this earth to do your good works.  But may we, by the power of the Holy Spirit living in us, live out TODAY and every moment of our lives in complete faith, trusting and walking out God’s words and commands.  Thank you God for giving us everything we need for life and godliness through the divine power of Your Holy Spirit!

We love you!
