The Spirit Without Limit

As we are wrapping up our three-day fast this month, this passage has been in my heart during our corporate prayer times:

“For he [Jesus] is sent by God. He speaks God’s words, for God gives him the Spirit without limit.”
John 3:34 NLT

Other translations say, “he gives the Spirit without measure”.  And it got me thinking, “What measure of the Spirit do I have?” 

I don’t think I’m operating in limitless measures of the Holy Spirit. I’m not walking on water or raising the dead, so I clearly have some room to increase. But, that’s not a knock on God’s willingness to pour out, because we know Jesus’ teaching about how generous and faithful God is to give His Spirit. 

“So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”
Luke 11:13 NLT

So it becomes more of a question of, “How hungry am I for more of Holy Spirit?”.
Am I asking God for more? Or am I satisfied with what I currently have? 

Times of fasting always seem to stir up hunger in more than one way. It’s not fun to be hungry in my stomach; but I’m very thankful that God speaks to my heart about being more hungry for Him and His Spirit. 

Father God, we are so thankful for your generous nature and your faithfulness to give the gift of Holy Spirit like a good father. We ask that you would grow our capacity for more. We ask that you would stir-up a holy dissatisfaction with our current measure, and that we would become hungry for the Holy Spirit without limit. 

I look forward to worshiping and praying with you tonight.
