The Humble Way is the Way Home

“Humility and the fear of the Lord bring wealth and honor and life.” (Prov 22:4) “For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” (Luke 14:11) “Therefore humble yourselves under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time.” (1 Pet 5:6)  “…for He guides the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble His way”. (Psalm 25:9)

Throughout our lives, we are constantly needing to know the way…whether it is to a store, a restaurant, church, a meeting, an event, or home.  At  the end of our days, we are all going to leave this earth and go to our permanent home and my prayer is that we all know the WAY to everlasting life, for not all will go that way.

“Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.” (Dan 12:2)

Jesus tells us “I am the Way, the truth and the life…” (Jn 14:6), yet the world is constantly bombarding us with its way to live our lives, and if we are not careful, we could begin to walk that way.  The battle between heaven and hell for each of us begins in our minds and hearts.  And the god of this world (Satan) has an agenda – which is “to steal, kill, and destroy.” (Jn 10:10)  And these efforts are deceptively disguised through what the world calls ‘wisdom’ and the Bible in James 3 identifies as “envy and selfish ambition, leading to disorder and every evil practice.”

The world is constantly and deceptively telling us how to live with envy and selfish ambition…how we need more, that what we have is not enough, how we need to protect and fight for ourselves, and that we must love ourselves and put ourselves first.  Just look at social media or TV ads.  Everything is aimed at getting you everything the world has to offer.  But Jesus tells us that we are to deny ourselves and lose our lives for Him. (Matt 16:24-25)  This is walking in humility!  And when we hear the words of Jesus in Matthew 5, “Blessed are the poor in spirit…blessed are those who mourn…blessed are the humble…blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness…blessed are the merciful…blessed are the pure in heart…blessed are the peacemakers…blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness…and blessed are those insulted, persecuted, and falsely accused because of Me.”,  we can easily discern that these statements which exhort humility, go completely against the norm and everything the world is telling us. Though living our lives according to the way of Jesus may be difficult now, we are storing up for ourselves treasures in heaven, and in the end, we will be so blessed with an eternal home in heaven!

“For this world is not our home; we are looking forward to our everlasting home in heaven.” (Heb 13:14 TLB)

Lord Jesus, thank you for showing us your way of humility.  You humbled yourself and became obedient to death on a cross.  I pray that we would never conform to the ways of this world, but instead that we would renew our minds through the Word, revelation of the Spirit, meditating on Jesus and worshiping Him, praying in the Spirit at all times, waiting on you and putting our faith in you as we walk humbly before you!  Thank you that as we walk humbly before you, you lift us up and give us your grace.  Amen!

I love you all!
