The Assignments & Refinements
He (Jesus) will baptize you with the Holy Spirit (Assignment) and with Fire (Refinement). Matthew 3:11
Over the past two weeks, I have been amazed at the number of “new assignments” people have received from the Lord. It has been beautiful to watch! But don’t be discouraged if you haven’t received a new assignment. I haven’t received one. (: The Lord might want you right where you are. But it is evident that in what I believe is a time of final preparations, people in the body of Christ are being assigned to new positions by the Lord. Some have been out of alignment and others are just plain being reassigned. Regardless, our response is not to try to ‘reason’ out our assignment, but to simply say ‘Yes, and the best assignment is the very one the Lord is assigning you to! EVERYONE is to have an assignment, so if you don’t know yours, it is a great time to press into the Lord and listen! Oh- we have 5 days of prayer and fasting next week…Perfect! In Acts 2, when the 120 in the upper room were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in other tongues, Apostle Peter addressed the crowd’s questions by quoting the old testament prophet Joel saying, “In the last days, God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams…”, I believe the Lord was imparting new assignments for the Kingdom work that was at hand to be accomplished. Jesus even prepared these people by telling them to wait in the city until they were clothed with power (Holy Spirit) from on high. It was then that they would get their specific assignment by the Holy Spirit to be witnesses throughout the entire earth as commanded by Jesus!
I hope you all know how much I love you and am praying for you in this season. My heart is for each of us to be fully enlisted in the Kingdom of God…as a follower of Jesus, to receive our Holy Spirit assignments, to allow His fire to refine us and remove anything that could hold us back, to fully engaged with your eyes on Jesus, and to fully embrace and be embraced by the body of Christ (Unity!). We don’t have time on this earth to be ‘casual’ Christians. We are called to be all-in followers of Jesus, to walk as Jesus did, with our hearts burning with a fervent fire. (1 Jn 2:6)
Two last things to note regarding these assignments:
- Every assignment requires faith. When you receive an assignment, the Holy Spirit will empower you to complete it. If you can complete it on your own, it is not likely an assignment the Lord has given you…but one you have taken upon yourself. Be careful not to do that! With each assignment comes a Holy Spirit GRACE that is given to us. (Rom 12:6) Without this grace, we will not have the gifting to accomplish the assignment.
- Be aware that receiving your assignment, does not mean you are ready for it. There is often a REFINING of fire that comes with the assignment. New assignments are Kingdom upgrades, which require greater purity…and this often requires a refining fire. Sorry! But if you are not aware of this, it will likely be more painful. There are often things we are holding onto that need to be removed (burned off). It is easier for us if we are able to “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles us – so that we can run with perseverance the ASSIGNMENT given us!” (Heb 12:1)
Here are a few Biblical examples of the Assignment followed by the Refinement:
A. David was anointed by the Holy Spirit to be king (assignment), but didn’t become king of Judah for 15 years and then it took another 7 years for David to become king over all Israel. During this gap, there were many trials and testings that David endured (refinement).
B. Abraham was to be the “father of many nations” (assignment), but had to go through 25 years of refinement and was given a final test to sacrifice the very promise.
C. Joseph was given a dream (assignment) that he would be a leader of many, but it was 14 years later after being a slave and imprisoned (refinement) that he stepped into the assignment.
I don’t want this to be discouraging and I don’t believe the assignments we are receiving in this season will require 14-25 years of refinement, but the Lord will require a greater purification for the upgraded assignments. So count it JOY when you face the refinement after the assignment, because it is this testing of your faith that brings alignment to the assignment! (James 1:2-4)
“But who can endure the day of His coming? Who can stand when He appears? For He will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap. He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and He will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring offerings in righteousness to the LORD.” Malachi 3:2-3
May we be purified as we burn with the fire of Jesus in our hearts.
We love you!
