Stand Firm Against the Current of This Age
Matt 24:13 “But the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.”
Last Sunday, Pastor Marcus did an amazing job of unfolding Jesus’ words in Matthew 24 regarding the end of this age and the coming age…the return of Jesus as King. I want to reiterate that we will not be able to walk in the fullness of humility and will not be able to “stand firm” in this age if we don’t have the understanding that this age (the world system) is coming to an end, and that those who “stand firm to the end” will enter into the ‘age to come’ as the bride of Christ when Jesus returns for His bride. And so we live our lives now – in this age, with the divine power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit, for the ‘age to come’! We lay up for ourselves treasures in heaven (age-to-come)…not on earth (this age)! (Matt 6:19-21)
Click on this link and take a moment to meditate on these seven Scriptures that tie together “standing firm” and “persevering” to our eternal life. This is not a comprehensive list, but I just want you to see the Biblical importance of standing firm and persevering to the end of this age, so that we gain eternal life in the age to come!
Have you ever swam or played in the ocean? If so, then you have learned about ocean currents! These currents can be extremely dangerous and life threatening. If you are not aware of the current and constantly repositioning yourself and fighting against it, you can quickly end up far from where you started…ask Pastor Marcus. 🙂
In the very same way, the world that we live in, this age, has a strong current with a constant pull away from Jesus and His commands (the will of God). So we must be aware and we must ‘stand firm’. Matthew 24:12 tells us that if we allow the current of this age to move us, it will result in an increase of lawlessness and wickedness (which is anything apart from God’s will) which will then lead to our love growing cold. May we heed this warning…as Jesus was specifically warns those who have faith in Him! Romans 12:2 warns us of this ‘worldly current’. Let me rephrase this… “Do not allow the strong current of this world to pull you away, but constantly fight the world’s current by standing firm in your faith and continuing to persevere in the Lord so that you will know and remain in God’s will and His ways.”
This Sunday, we will focus in on how to ‘stand firm’ in this present dark age according to Ephesians 6 as we put on the full armor of God.
Lord Jesus, Thank you for spiritual awareness so that we can put on the armor of God in order to stand against the currents of this world. Help us to be fully aware of the devil’s schemes and may we not drift away, but stand firm in the faith until the end! Amen.
Hebrews 2:1 “We must pay more careful attention, therefore, …so that we don’t drift away.”
