Search My Heart God!
“God, I invite your searching gaze into my HEART. Examine me through and through. Find out everything that may be hidden within me. Put me to the test and sift through all my anxious cares. See if there is any path of pain I’m walking on, and lead me back to your glorious, everlasting ways – the path that brings me back to you!” (Psalm 139:23-24 TPT)
This email comes to you from a place of vulnerability in my own life and as I write this, it is not only for your edification, but for mine. 😊 Just recently I had a close pastor and friend ask me, “How is your heart?” My initial response was, “It’s great…still beating.” That was in jest, but I then took a moment and realized it felt heavy and weighted down. I had to stop in my busyness and honestly evaluate the condition of my heart. It is always easier to give the short answer that doesn’t require the introspection or the invitation for the Lord to have access into our heart. In that moment I paused and took the time to share the weight and tiredness I felt in trying to accomplish 100+ “good” things in my own strength, but in doing so, realizing that the busyness and load had quickly positioned me out of the abiding, intimate walk with my Jesus. It can happen so quickly! I love how Jesus tenderly reminds us that if we don’t remain in Him and He does not remain in us, we can do nothing. (Jn 15:5) And that we are to yoke with Jesus and learn from Him because He is gentle and humble in heart. (Matt 11:29) This is how we find rest for our soul! It is easy to say we are ‘yoked’ with Jesus, but a yoking means we are no longer deciding the direction or way we are going. I am in the process now of adjusting my life movements so that I NEVER lose the constant intimate walk with Jesus.
I want to encourage you, even as you read this, to pause for a moment and ask the Lord to reveal any burdens and heaviness that you may have in your heart. Are there things you are doing that may not be in step with the Spirit. What makes it so hard to see is that they are often good things that we are doing “for God”, but remember, Jesus didn’t do anything for the Father. He only did what He saw the Father do. “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what He sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.” (Jn 5:19)
I will end with this. David was a man after God’s heart. His prayer in Psalm 51:10 was for the Lord to create in him a PURE HEART! David also reveals in Psalm 24:3-4 that a PURE HEART is required to ascend the hill of the Lord and stand in the holy place. And Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:8 that the PURE in HEART will see God.
Lord, we ask that you open the eyes of our heart to constantly see what you are doing, so that we may walk in your council and remain steadfast in your ways every day of our life! Search our hearts O God and create in us pure hearts that we may see you and know you! Amen
Never let the fire in your heart go out. Keep it alive. Serve the Lord. (Rom 12:11 NIRV)
