Pressed But Not Crushed
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed” 2 Co 4:7-9 (NKJV)
In a season where I am experiencing a little more pressure and testing in my own life, I want to encourage you with a passage of scripture that the Lord has been speaking to me from.
In 2 Corinthians 3 & 4, the Word of God unfolds the glories of the new covenant and describes it as much more glorious than the old covenant given on Saini. The old covenant had a glory that was fading away and couldn’t produce transformation in the followers’ life. It showed us our need for godliness, but didn’t provide the power to help us meet that need. (Cor. 3:7-11)
2 Corinthians 3 goes on to say that in the new covenant, we have access to His glory that begins to transform us into the very nature and character of Jesus. He releases His glory as we commune with Him through prayer and gives us power to walk in obedience to His commands. (2 Cor. 3:16-18)
Then, in chapter 4, Paul lets us in on a secret of the kingdom. We have access to this glory in trials and tribulations. When we are pressed on every side, we are not going to be crushed. When we experience perplexing circumstances, we will not be overcome by despair . When we are struck down, we are not destroyed. When we are persecuted, we are not forsaken by Jesus, but He is present to give us strength to endure. The Word describes these experiences as “carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body”. (2 Cor. 4:7-10)
I want to encourage us that just because we are experiencing pressing and perplexing circumstances, it does not mean that we are outside of God’s will. If we are being persecuted, it doesn’t mean Jesus has abandoned us. In the midst of these very things, as we turn our eyes to Jesus, we are going to experience the life of Jesus. He will give us strength to endure and strength to overcome and He will bring about deliverance!
Jesus, we thank you for the glory of the new covenant, and we want to be transformed into your image. Help us to turn to you and behold You in every season. Would you manifest your life in us as we walk through various trials and tribulations. We thank you that we are not overcome by the world, but have been given power to be overcomers. We love Your leadership!
Sincerely,
Pastor Marcus & The Rock Staff
