Praying With The Church For The Church

It’s amazing how many of the New Testament prayers are focused on strengthening the Church (the believers). It seems like Jesus and the Apostles, though very evangelistic, were commonly praying with the church for the church. It seems the focus of many of their prayers was for the building up of the body, with the understanding that when the body was operating as intended, evangelism, discipleship, reconciliation, and redemption would all be a natural and obvious byproduct.

John 17:9, 20-21 CSB
9 “I pray for them. I am not praying for the world but for those you have given me, because they are yours.
20 “I pray not only for these, but also for those who believe in me through their word. 21 May they all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us, so that the world may believe you sent me.

And because of their rich Jewish culture and obedience to Christ’s teachings, the early church leaders weren’t praying these prayers alone in isolation. Instead they were praying corporately following the rhythm of meeting regularly for prayer (Acts 1:14, 3:1, 6:4, 16:13, and many more).

As we practice this model of turning our attention in prayer toward something much bigger than ourselves, consider joining us tonight for our Regional Night of Prayer & Worship in the Sanctuary at 7pm.

And if you’d like a great resource on the different Apostolic Prayers of the New Testament, check out this handy guide…and use it as we pray together corporately.

I hope to see you tonight and this Sunday at our Family Service with Breakfast at 9am and a Car-Wash Fundraiser for the Students going to Youth Camp.

Be blessed,
Pastor Andrew & The Rock Staff
