Perseverance Helps Us Remain In God’s Love
“As the Father has loved me, I have also loved you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commands you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in His love.” John 15:9-10 CSB,
Last week we looked at Hebrews 10:36, which very plainly tells us we “need perserverance”, and on Sunday we unpacked the meaning behind the Greek word which we often translate as “perserverance”. This week, the Lord has been speaking to me about a connection between perseverance and remaining in God’s love.
Remaining in God’s love is a lot like being a good parent, a good spouse, or a good employee. It isn’t a ‘one and done’; we have to show up every day. We can’t throw one good birthday party, or perform well on one project and then check out. The showing-up and giving our best day-in and day-out requires perseverance.
Even more importantly, God wants us to have that same day-in and day-out perseverance towards His love. One of the ways that Jesus teaches us to remain in His love is to keep His commands–something that also requires perseverance. Each day requires patient endurance and steadfastness to continue to be doers of the word, and not just hearers (James 1:22).
Father God, would you help us by Your empowering grace to grow in perseverance and endurance so that we can live every day keeping your commands without growing tired or weary. And as we do so, would we encounter greater and greater measures of Your love. Help us not to rely on our own strength, but to lean on You as our source of steadfastness. Thank you for giving us the will and power to do this (Philippians 2:13). In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
This Sunday is going to be extra special, we have some amazing guests ministering with us during the service. You don’t want to miss it! I hope to see you there.
Blessings,
Pastor Andrew and your Rock Staff
