New Year, New Self

“…take off your former way of life, the old self that is corrupted by deceitful desires, be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and put on, the new self, the one created according to God’s likeness in righteousness and purity of the truth.”  – Ephesians 4:22-24 CSB

I’m grateful for the opportunity that the New Year gives us to do a sort of “reset” on our lives. We get to throw off the old and put on the new. Whatever ways our life was corrupted by deceitful desires (I’m looking at you Christmas treats!), we can throw those off and put on the new self, the one created to God’s likeness. For many people January is the jump-start they need to get back on track with a Bible reading plan, to join a corporate fast, or practice other Christian disciplines. 

I want to encourage you to take this week, as we are entering the new year, as a time to connect with God for a check-up. I used to think of it as “self-evaluation”, but now I realize that God is much better positioned to evaluate me. As you make space in your life to meet with Him, ask the Holy Spirit to highlight what needs to change in your life this year. I believe God wants to renew the spirit of our minds so that we can have His vision for our life and recognize our role in building His kingdom. 

As our leadership team has been praying, we’ve felt God preparing us for exciting things in 2025, and we can’t wait to tell you more about it this weekend at Vision Sunday.
