LOVE with Action and Truth to establish His Dwelling Place
“Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue, but Love with Actions and in Truth. This is how we know that we belong to the Truth (Jesus), and how we set our hearts at rest in His presence (Dwelling Place).” 1 John 3:18-19
The Dwelling Place God desires was never intended to be a ‘stationary place’. His children are and have always been the desired dwelling place of the Lord! And because sin entered into the world through the fall of man, Jesus had to come as the propitiation for our sin. (1 Jn 2:2) Through Jesus we now have the ability to become a dwelling place for God through the Holy Spirit. This is why Jesus says to us, “Come to me and I will give you Rest.” But this is not intended to be a stagnant place or place of no action. This Rest or Dwelling Place requires effort and obedience! The author of Hebrews makes this clear…
“Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.” (Heb 4:11)
In John 15, Jesus also speaks to the action of obedience that is necessary in order to be a dwelling place…and then He connects the purpose of the dwelling place (abiding in the vine) with the eternal fruit that we are appointed to produce…which is making disciples!
“If you obey my commands, you will abide (dwell) in my love…I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit – fruit that will last.” (John 15:10,16)
PRAYER: Lord, I pray that we would delight ourselves in your ways and make every effort to walk in obedience to your commands. Lead us and strengthen us by your Holy Spirit to live lives motivated by your sacrificial love. May we become a dwelling place for your will to be accomplished on this earth as we love with action and in truth. Send us, equip us, empower us, and strengthen us by your Spirit – that our lives may be a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to you Lord.
We love you!
