Living In The Fear Of The Lord For The Final Reunion

“Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.” (Ps 34:11)

“The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death.” (Prov 14:27)

Dear Rock Family,

We know that Jesus is coming back to this earth once more to receive a Bride that is pure, spotless, and holy. (Eph 5:25-27) That might, and should, cause us to pause, especially when we consider the mistakes we often make throughout the road of life. And no matter how hard we try on our own, I guarantee that we will never become what Jesus is returning for.

This is why we need Jesus’ help now…before He returns. He came and gave His life so that we, through the empowering grace of the Holy Spirit, given to those who surrender their lives to Jesus, can become a Bride prepared for the Final Reunion.

And Jesus did not simply send us the Holy Spirit; He also showed us how to live a pure and spotless life according to the Spirit.  And although we are powerless in our own ability to attain what is necessary for this Final Reunion, God’s Word tells us that Christ gives us what we need.

We have His blood, and we have the Holy Spirit!  So our part is to repent and turn from our ways, receive the blood for the forgiveness of our sins, and live a surrendered life according to the Spirit—no longer governed by our fleshly desires. (Rom 8:6)

I say all of this to get to the heart of the matter:  In order to live according to the Spirit, we must live in the fear of the Lord.  For it is in the fear of the Lord that we come to know God’s will, or said another way, that we find the knowledge of God!

The Apostle Paul prays in Colossians 1 that the Church would be filled with the knowledge of God’s will so that we might live a life worthy and pleasing to the Lord – a life that bears fruit through the good works revealed by the knowledge of God’s will.

So how do we do this?  For now, I will give you Solomon’s answer in Proverbs 2:1-5 and reference several New Testament verses that reinforce Solomon’s words:

“My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you (1 Thess 2:13), making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding (James 1:5), if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures (Col 2:3), then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God (1 Cor 2:10-12).”

Lord Jesus, help us by Your Spirit to listen to and receive Your words of life and take hold of the treasures of Your commands. We call upon Your name for wisdom and understanding. Give us the strength to seek You with all our hearts so that we may live according to Your Spirit in the fear of the Lord and so discover the knowledge of Your will. Amen!

May we live in the fear of the Lord, as Jesus did. (Isaiah 11:3)

I love you all!
