Hello Rock Family,
Heads up: Brian Fenimore is speaking tonight at 6:45pm in our Wednesday service. This Friday at 6:45pm is our Women’s Gathering. This Sunday join us after the service for Discover The Rock with lunch and childcare.
I want to encourage you in whatever season of life you are in, that no matter what you are facing, Jesus is your answer. Not only is He your answer, but He is your ONLY answer. Even as believers, we have the tendency to look for answers and solutions in this world to satisfy our needs and problems, and we do this before even considering turning to Jesus. He often becomes our last resort rather than our “go to”. Jesus tells us He came that we may have life, and have it to the very fullest! (Jn 10:10) He reiterates this again in John 14…”Because I live, you also will live.” Again in John 15 Jesus uses the analogy of the vine and branches. I know we have hear this a thousand times. But LISTEN to what Jesus is saying… “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you REMAIN in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit. But apart from me you can do nothing.” We weren’t created to run to him and cry out to him in times of need. We were created to BE/REMAIN/STAY in Christ and in doing so He takes lordship of our lives. Paul even calls himself a “slave to righteousness” and a “bond-servant to Christ”.
So why the title “Jump in with Both Feet”? A life of abiding and remaining present with Jesus is a life of faith which is not based on the wisdom of the world. It is not based on what we understand or what the world calls wisdom. It is a life that is ALL in Jesus! It requires a life devoted to Him and denying of self. This life actually requires that you die to your own wants, needs, desires, and expectations. Paul says it well in Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God…”. This life Paul describes requires a jumping in with both feet! The question is why would we do this for Jesus? The answer is in the last sentence of Gal 2:20, paraphrased, “Because Jesus loves us so much that He gave everything He had to the point of giving His life for us!” If the Son of God would do that for us, why wouldn’t we be willing to give Him our lives so that we can live in His? Why wouldn’t we jump in? I will take that exchange any day!
I pray that we together jump into the deep waters of complete faith and trust in our Lord and Savior – to a depth where we can no longer touch…no longer control our outcome. Shallow water requires little trust and we can determine our steps, but jumping into the deep rushing waters requires a life-surrendering trust and a blind faith that relinquishes all control to Him…where He determines our steps! For the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace! (Rom 8:6)
