ROCK WEEKLY UPDATE – Awakened & Activated
Hi Rock Family,
Here are some important updates for this week.  Don’t forget we have a Wednesday evening service tonight at 6:45pm.  We will be actively engaging in the gifts of the Spirit and into the very things the Lord has created each of us specifically for.     As I said last week, our Creator has put unique ideas inside each of us that are to be “activated” in this very season.  The Lord is awakening His Church and I believe we are in a “now” season where things are going to accelerate faster than we can imagine.  He is asking for our agreement…our Amen!  He will handle the rest.

On Sunday we will NOT be going out as part of the service.  This will be a time of preparation for the coming things the Lord is leading us into.  Remember that we are never meant to be comfortable…even with church. 🙂   His glory is revealed in times of faith, not comfort.  And we are to walk by faith which requires eyes on the Lord.  Comfort on the other hand breeds complacency…something we can’t afford.  We are to make the most of every opportunity!  (Eph 5:16)

May His beauty captivate us!

ROCK WEEKLY UPDATE – “God is in the Journey”

Hello Rock Family,
In my “busy” life, I am often so focused on getting through the storm or getting to my destination, that I miss the fact that God is in the midst of my journey.  The Lord is lovingly dealing with me in this area.  And I have a sense that I am not the only one.  I want to encourage us that our heavenly Father is much more interested in walking with us in the journey than getting us to our destination.  I once heard someone say, if we move, God will wait patiently.  But if we wait patiently, God will move.   Waiting on the Lord requires a trust and it is in this trust that He becomes our shield to protect and guide us!    Proverbs 30:5 “He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.”We can’t afford to get distracted or discouraged in this season.  Remember that greater is He who is in us than the one in this world.  We are learning how to trust and obey in the one who is inside us!  And in this, we will become overcomers!   1 John 5:3-4 “This is love for God: to obey His commands.  And His commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world.”

This Wednesday evening (today!) we will spend some time identifying the very things that God is stirring in our hearts.   Our Creator has put things inside us that are to be “activated” in this very season.  And we want to help this happen!   The Lord is awakening His church and I believe we are in a “now” season where things are going to accelerate faster than we can imagine.  Our part is to say “yes”…“here am I send me!”    He will take care of the rest.

On Sunday we will be going out and I would ask that you begin to seek the Lord and ask for His plan.  I have been astounded by all the testimonies and amazing things God is doing in and through each of us, but I also don’t want to get comfortable.  I am praying for our intentionality to increase this Sunday and that we would make the very most of every opportunity that presents itself as we align with God’s will/commands and move according to the Spirit.  No Sunday evening service this week.  See below.

WEEKLY UPDATES – “Where Is Your Gaze?”
Hello Rock Family,
I woke up this morning and heard the Lord say – “As the sun rises at dawn and burns off the morning fog, so I am burning off the fog and the haze of this time and revealing my Son.”   Luke 1:78-79 says, “A new day will dawn on us from above because our God is loving and merciful. He will give light to those who live in the dark and in death’s shadow.  He will guide us into the way of peace.”A new day is dawning!  I have been so encouraged over the past couple weeks as so many of us have stepped out and experienced the goodness of God through simple acts of obedience and love towards others!  It brings me so much joy to see the body of Christ begin to awaken to a new day with new understanding and great anticipation and excitement.Although COVID-19 and racial tension and unrest have been relevant to the current times, they should not become our focus or consume our thoughts…which can be difficult when that is all we see on the news.  Look at the “fruit” of these events.  The world has addressed these matters using fear.  COVID-19 has isolated people and we have seen anger, division of thought, hopelessness, fear of lack and death.  The George Floyd incident, while horrible and tragic, has resulted in rage, fear, destruction, and further division.  Many Christians have had their minds consumed with these current events which breeds fear and division in the body of Christ.

I feel led to challenge us, as Believers, to shift our gaze to the Creator, the Lord Almighty!  This requires that we remove our gaze and thoughts from a focus of what we are seeing in this world right now.   2 Cor 4:18 says, “So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.”   Hebrews 12 tells us to “throw off” anything that would hinder us from running the race that Jesus has given us to run; that we would use all strength, endurance, and determination to focus our gaze on Jesus and what He has set before us!

We are not of this world and the one inside of us gives us authority over the things of this world.  It is time for the Son to be revealed and this will happen through us as ambassadors of Love, witnesses of Jesus, and ministers of reconciliation!

So as we run the race set before us, may we make every effort to live in peace with everyone and be holy as He is holy.   I pray we love others with the same love Jesus has given us; that this love would not just be with words, but with our actions as we surrender our lives to love others and to truth.  For in this, our hearts and minds will be at rest – abiding in the presence of the Lord!  (see 1 Jn 3:16-20)

I am praying Colossians 1:10-12 over us this week…that we may live a life worthy of the Lord and please Him in every way.  Producing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might, so that we may have great endurance, perseverance, and patience – giving joyful thanks to our heavenly Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light!

We love you!

Isaiah 8:12-14a “Don’t call everything a conspiracy, like they do, and don’t live in dread of what frightens them.  Make the Lord of Heaven’s Armies holy in your life.  He is the one you should fear.  He is the one who should make you tremble.  He will keep you safe.”

Hello Rock Family,
We are SO excited by all the testimonies of God’s goodness over this past week and by your willingness to step out into new uncharted territory as we keep our eyes on the Lord!  As we move forward, we are holding everything loosely and continually seeking the Lord as to the direction He is taking us.  To be honest, this has been personally difficult as I feel unprepared and ill-equipped.  I would much prefer to rely on a detailed plan.  But we know the Lord desires that we seek Him alone and walk by faith and not by sight.  As we step out in risk and obedience, He will be faithful!  I am finding that a life led by the Spirit helps keep us in a place of humility and trust because we can’t rely on our own abilities and plans.

And let me say, I am so honored and blessed to be on this journey with such an amazing family of people.  You all amaze me constantly in your faith, trust and willingness to “go for it”!  Thank you for trusting the Lord in this season.  We are seeing more fruit than EVER!   This past Sunday we experienced more salvations, re-commitments to Jesus, healings, prayers, and people just being loved and cared for than we have ever seen on a Sunday.  And I believe this is just the start.  God has so much more for us as we continue to go into the deep waters, the uncharted territory, and trust His leading!

With each meeting, please continue to follow the appropriate guidelines for Douglas County so that we keep everyone safe and limit the spread of any virus or sickness.   And if you are considered high-risk, we would ask that you take additional measures to protect yourself.  We will continue to provide on-line viewing if you believe it best to remain at home during this time or if you are in a self-quarantine.

THE ROCK – MANY CHANGES & HAPPENINGS THIS WEEK

Hello Rock Family,
There have been some questions as to whether we will have a “in-person” service Today.  The answer is yes!   Service will start at 6:45pm.  We will gather together in the sanctuary for our FIRST Wednesday night LIVE service since March 18th.   Over these past four weeks, the Lord has been leading us into some major shifts and we are moving at a fairly fast pace.  That so, we felt it would be beneficial to have a time this Wednesday evening to allow you to ask questions and share your thoughts about where the Lord is leading us.  As I said last Sunday, I have the tendency to just go after the plans the Lord gives us with tenacity, but my intention is to do this together as a family!  I love you all and want to come alongside each one of you and provide clear understanding and communication.  I believe we are moving into exciting times and as we have been praying as a staff, this excitement is continuing to rise.  During this evening’s service we thought it was important to have some time for you to ask questions or share your thoughts.  Pastors Marcus, Andrew, Ana, and I will be speaking together and available to answer your questions and bring additional clarity to the vision.  If you plan to watch on-line and would like to ask any questions or give remarks, this can be done by writing a comment/question in the comment section of either Facebook or our Online Church platform.  We will respond to as many questions as we can during the meeting.

In preparation for Pentecost Sunday, we are calling a 3-hour prayer time this Saturday (5/30) in The Rock sanctuary from 2pm to 5pm.  We understand the importance and significance of the Kairos time we are in and believe that prayer will align us and help unify our hearts with what the Lord desires in this time.

Also, we are going to be having a SPECIAL Sunday Night – Celebration Worship Service THIS Sunday (5/31) at 7pm in our sanctuary.  Please come back and join us at 7pm as we hear testimonies from the day and then take the opportunity to worship God with ALL our heart, soul, mind, and strength!

Each time we meet, please continue to follow the appropriate government guidelines for Colorado and Douglas County so that we keep everyone safe and limit the spread of any virus or sickness.   And if you are considered high-risk, we would ask that you take additional measures to protect yourself.  We will continue to provide on-line viewing if you believe it best to remain at home during this time or if you are in a self-quarantine.

I know some of you were out of town last weekend.  I pray you all had a wonderful Memorial weekend.  Due to how quickly we are shifting, I would highly encourage you to watch last Sunday’s message (5/24) before tonight’s service if possible.

Pastors Mike & Kristi and your Rock Staff familyHeb 12:24-25  “And let us consider how we may encourage one another to love and to do good deeds, not forsaking our meeting together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

PS:  Please Review Our Precautionary Measures for This Sunday:

We will take precautionary measures to limit the spread of the virus and keep everyone healthy.  If you plan to join us in the sanctuary, we’re asking that you follow the current recommended social distancing practices and CDC guidelines.  If you need to review the guidelines as they pertain to Communities of Faith prior to attending on Sunday, see link:  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/php/faith-based.html

In addition, we will adhere to the applicable May 15, 2020 Guidelines for Places of Worship that were submitted to the State as a variance to State guidelines by our Douglas County Commissioners and approved by Tri-County Health.  This includes the recommendation of limiting the number of people to 50% of the fire code capacity of the facility (including staff, volunteers and congregants) and adhering to current recommended state physical distancing practices, which may further reduce recommended capacity.  The intent of The Rock staff is to help keep everyone safe and healthy while providing the opportunity to gather and worship together.  Please help us keep everyone safe and healthy!

For those that are considered high-risk including the elderly and those with specific underlying medical conditions, we would recommend that you continue to shelter at home or take additional precautions if planning to attend in person.  If anyone has COVID-19 symptoms, we would ask that you remain at home.

We love you!

Updated 5/17/20

Hello Rock Family,
This Sunday Pastor Zach will be sharing a very inspiring message that aligns with the direction the Lord is leading us as a church body.  It will be Pastor Zach & Nicole’s last Sunday on staff with The Rock.  What an honor to have the opportunity to raise up, and now send out some amazing young kingdom leaders as they pursue the passion the Lord has given them to help start a church in downtown Denver.  Pastor Kristi has been working with the youth for some time now and will be stepping in as the interim youth pastor with the assistance of an amazing well-established team.   We will also be honoring our graduates this Sunday.

Announcement!  I would like to invite you into 3 days of fasting & prayer starting THIS Monday, May 18th and ending with a Zoom Prayer Meeting on Wednesday night, May 20th, in place of our regular Wednesday night service.

This is a SPECIAL “kairos” time and there are a number of significant changes that are taking place with The Rock and things are moving quickly!  I keep being reminded of the word from Chuck Pierce… “For the Lord says, many changes are going to accelerate.  Even over the next 3-4 months there will be a great acceleration of changes…the church will connect in ways it has never connected before, advance in ways it has never advanced before.  It will cause a new move and a new prototype!”

We believe the Lord is giving us a new “wineskin/prototype” for His Church as you have heard from Kristi and me over the past two Sundays.  If you missed these two messages, Please watch them!  They will give context to the direction the Lord is taking us and bring clarity to the changes.  Links are here:

We have been talking about crossing the Jordan for some time now.  In Joshua 1 the Israelites were told, “Prepare!…Three days from now you will cross the Jordan River and will go in and take possession of the land the Lord your God is giving you…”  I believe the key to our preparation for what the Lord is leading us into is prepared and humble hearts…purified hearts!  And what better way than to consecrate ourselves with three days of fasting and prayer.

The purpose of the fast will be two-fold. (Ezra 8 gives insight into this)

  1. We are to “humble ourselves before our God” which means a repentance and acknowledgment of our dependence on Him.
  2. We need to ask for God’s guidance and safety on this journey as we embrace the new wineskins that the Lord has for His church.

Updated 4/22/20

Hi Rock Family,

I pray that you are all doing well and enjoying the beauty of the Lord’s creation and spending time in His presence.  Sometimes we need the reminder that our true rest doesn’t come from sleep or a vacation, but from being with Jesus.   Jesus says “Come to me and I will give you rest.”  Let’s make it a priority over television, movies, emails, facebook, etc…to spend time with Jesus.  Make Him #1 in your life this week!  I want us to hear those words of Jesus to Mary in Luke 10, “You have chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from you.”  There is no better place to be than in the presence of our King!

Here are a few IMPORTANT items for you to know for this week:

Wednesday Night Service (Tonight – 4/22) at 6:45pm

Join us for worship and a word on Standing Firm.  Psalm 20:7-8 says, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and STAND FIRM.”

We are also going to try something new.  This service will last an hour and then we would love for people to get on a Zoom call to discuss the message and pray together.  We will put a Zoom link on the Facebook page, and it is also included here:

72-HOURS of PRAYER  (This Friday, April 24, 12:01 AM to Sunday, April 26 Midnight)  – The Rock will be leading at 12pm and 2pm This Friday (4/24)!

How do I join?  We will be sending out a Zoom Call Number later this week and will also put it on The Rock Facebook page.

What to expect:  We are anticipating more than 100 churches in Colorado will be joining together in 72 hours of prayer, led in 1-hour blocks.  The Rock will be leading a couple of these “hours”, and we will also have the opportunity to join other churches in prayer over the 72 hours!  You can find out more at www.denverprays.com.

SUNDAY MORNING (4/26):  9:45am – Special Guest Speaker David Crabtree

David is the founding pastor of DaySpring Church in Sydney, Australia and is now an international speaker, writer, and friend who now lives in Denver and is on the leadership team at Bridgeway Church.

Blessing Corey Russell

Last Sunday we were so blessed by Corey!  We would love to bless him back!  Normally we would have buckets in the back, but of course that doesn’t work right now.  🙂  If you didn’t have an opportunity to financially bless Corey and would like to do so, you can go to www.therock.org/give, click on guest speaker, and type “Corey Russell” in the memo.
