His Faithful Love Endures Forever

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His faithful love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods. His faithful love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords. His faithful love endures forever.”
 – Psalm 136:1-3 CSB

Psalm 136 is one of my favorite psalms because of it’s corporate nature with a call-and-response rhythm. The reader reads out the first half of each verse, and the audience responds with “His faithful love endures forever,” (or other translations have a slight variation like steadfast love, mercy, or lovingkindness). 

Throughout this entire chapter, one voice is recounting the works of God, and those hearing it are responding with the affirmation that God’s love endures forever. 

This has a transformative effect because it reminds us of God’s incredible love, testifies to His faithfulness, and also builds our faith and confidence that God will continue to be loving and faithful in the situations we find ourselves in now and in the future.  

This Sunday at our Family Sunday service (with breakfast and breakout groups) I want us to read through this chapter together and recount the faithfulness of God in our church, remember His faithfulness in our personal lives, encourage others regarding God’s enduring love, and to stir our faith for challenges we are or may be facing soon. 

I want to encourage you, before this Sunday, to recount times and places where God has shown you His faithful love, and to write these down.  And I hope you’ll join us this Sunday with these notes of how God has shown up in your life, the battles He’s won for you, the resources He’s provided, and use those to encourage those in your group.  This is such a great way to strengthen the faith of the body of Christ!

Father God, help us not to lose sight of your incredible love, which provides, protects, guides, and delivers. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, and Your Word, would you renew our minds to remember your faithfulness and to pass those testimonies on to others in a way that encourages them to believe for the impossible. 

Breakfast this Sunday starts at 9am, we’ll save a space for you! 🙂  And don’t forget that Daylight Savings Time will be ending.
