From Here To There
“The greatest distance you will travel is from your head to your heart.”
You have likely heard a quote similar to this before. This statement is so true and I can tell you that your only successful mode of travel from the head to your heart is through Jesus, by the Spirit! I pray that this email helps to take us FROM HERE TO THERE!
There is a great story in Matthew 17 where Jesus comes off the mountain of transfiguration and immediately steps into a situation with a father crying out for Jesus to heal his demon possessed son. Just before this, the other disciples had tried to heal the boy, but could not. Jesus had the boy brought to him, rebuked the demon, and immediately the demon came out and the boy was healed. When they asked Jesus why they couldn’t drive the demon out, He responded, “because of your unbelief”. But He doesn’t stop there. I love the next statement Jesus makes…“I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move FROM HERE TO THERE’, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
I want to propose that Jesus is not too concerned with the ‘mountains’ that we face. We will always have storms, situations, and mountains that will confront us throughout our lifetime. That is a guarantee! Jesus was not giving His disciples a lesson in removing mountains, He was teaching them how to position their heart to live by faith and not by sight, so that the mountains, storms, and situations they encounter have no influence on their lives. When the eyes of our heart are positioned on Jesus, we move from seeing with our natural eyes to “coming up” in the Spirit and seeing in the supernatural realm. When we move FROM HERE TO THERE, mountains move! Jesus lived by the Spirit during his time on earth. And the intent is for us to follow in His footsteps! When we step up into the supernatural realm, His grace, through faith, empowers us to go beyond natural circumstances without natural force. Hebrews 11:1 tells us that “Faith is the assurance of what we hope for and the certainty of what we do not see.” So if we allow the eyes of our mind to dictate our reality, unbelief has the opportunity to quickly creep in and now these ‘mountains’ can become immovable obstacles! This is what happened to the disciples who couldn’t heal the boy. Jesus saw the condition of their heart and responded, “O unbelieving and perverse generation.” (Matt 17:17) For it is the righteous who will live by faith (Heb 10:38) and without faith it is impossible to please God. (Heb 11:6)
One last point to make here. You may need to look at your Bible footnotes to find this verse. In Matt 17:21 Jesus finishes by telling His disciples that “this kind does not come out except by prayer and fasting”. We (The Rock) are in the middle of a time of prayer and fasting and I believe these times are invaluable for us! Fasting positions us to deny the desires of the flesh and prayer sets our mind and heart into an aligned submission with the Lord. Together there is a powerful transformation of body, mind, and heart that moves us FROM HERE TO THERE…to where our hearts are positioned in the Spirit and we walk by faith and no longer by sight regardless of the mountains we face. It is THERE that mountains move at the sound of our voice and impossibilities become possible!
Lord, I thank you that as we behold your glory with unveiled faces, we are being transformed by the Spirit into the likeness of Jesus from one degree of glory to another…FROM HERE TO THERE! (2 Cor 3:18)
May you move into the realm of impossibilities! I love you,
Pastor Mike and your Rock Staff
