Finding The Secret Place

“The one who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will abide and find rest under the shadow of the Almighty.”  Psalm 91:1

“For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion. In the secret place of His tabernacle (home) He shall hide me. He shall set me high upon a rock.”  Psalm 27:5

I’m sure you have read these Scripture verses many times.  But have you ever stopped and asked yourself, “What is this Secret Place?”  It is definitely the place where we want to be!

Psalm 139:15 tells us that we were created in this Secret Place!  And the two verses above make it very clear that in the Secret Place we have protection and rest.  It is the place we were created to dwell, to remain, to abide in.  So how do we find it?

Jesus invites us in Matthew 11:28-30 to come to Him and He will give us rest.  I want to encourage each of us to start with this, but this requires more than just an introduction.  The second part is critical and it is a yoking, linking or abiding together with Him every hour, minute, and second of your life!  There are many that say an initial ‘yes’ to Jesus, but Jesus isn’t looking for acquaintances.  He is looking for those who will abide in Him and come to know Him intimately.  He is looking for followers who love Him with a faith to trust and obey Him.  It is from here that we have access into the ‘Secret Place of His tabernacle/home’. (Ps 27:5)

“Jesus replied, ‘If anyone loves me, they will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and MAKE OUR HOME (Secret Place) with them.” He who does not love me will not obey my teaching.”  (John 14:23-24a)

My desire is for every one of us to experience the fullness of everything God has for us…in the Secret Place!  Last week I wrote about Knowing Him and Being Known by Him.  These are both keys for access into that place!  My prayer is that we would make every effort to find and live in this Secret Place!  “There remains then, a Sabbath-rest (Secret Place) for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also enters rest from his own work, just as God did from His. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest (Secret Place), so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.” (Hebrews 4:9-11)

 Lord Jesus, Help us to live outside of our own understanding, outside of our own mindset. Give us the mind of Christ…the mind of the Holy Spirit.  May we learn to abide in you Jesus so that we may live in and from the Secret Place and find rest under the shadow and protection of the Father.  May we live our lives in worshipful obedience to you, in full surrender, as a living sacrifice. May our words become prayers of sweet incense and may our song be of beautiful adoration to you and may the meditation of our hearts be pleasing in your eyes as we abide in the Secret Place of your dwelling…of your home!  Amen.
