Disciples of Jesus
Beginning of Jesus’ time of ministry on earth: “Then He (Jesus) appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons.” Mark 3:14-15 NKJV
End of Jesus’ (physical) time of ministry on earth: “And He (Jesus) said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. And these (supernatural) signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;… they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover. And they (disciples) went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the Word through the accompanying (supernatural) signs. Amen.” Mark 16:15,17,18,20 NKJV
Sometimes we need a reminder that when we put our faith in Jesus and surrender our lives to Him, He anoints us with the power of Holy Spirit and appoints us under His lordship to be His followers…Disciples of Jesus! I never read (in the Bible) of a disciple or follower of Jesus who continued to live the same lifestyle he was living. In every case, it was a RADICAL change. They left everything to follow Jesus. However, in the western church culture, becoming a Christian is typically understood to be someone who prays and accepts Jesus and then might join a group and go to church on Sundays. But as we see in Mark 3, Jesus’ disciples were ones who were (1) With him (2) Sent out to preach (3) And given power to heal the sick and cast out demons.
We see a very similar pattern at the very end of Mark as Jesus leaves the earth to sit at the right hand of God. The disciples (that’s us!) are commissioned to (1) Go and preach the gospel (2) Heal the sick (3) Jesus will work with us and confirm His Word through supernatural signs.
I believe Jesus is breathing into His Church…His Ecclesia…His People in this season through Holy Spirit to raise up an army of true disciples on the earth, in these last days, who will accomplish the heart and desire and will of the Father. The Bible tells us that we are God’s chosen ones and a treasured possession. (Deut 7:6; 1 Pet 2:9) But don’t just think of that in the first person! 😊 This is for your neighbor too! God chooses them and sees them as a treasured possession and is looking to His Church to share the gospel with them and bring them into the family…into His kingdom! Jesus tells us in Luke 24:47 that “repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in His name to all people!”
Lord, We humble ourselves from thinking that we have you figured out. We know your thoughts and ways are so much higher than our thoughts and ways. Would you lead us by your Holy Spirit that we would walk in your ways and keep your commands, so that we may be given authority on this earth to govern your house and have charge in your heavenly courts. (Zech 3:7) Breathe into us and awaken us by your Spirit to the things that are in your heart. And may we live as Christ lived on this earth…that we would only do what we see the Father doing. (Jn 5:19)
May you live in the fullness of Christ! I love you.
