The Rock Weekly – September 25, 2024

Building With God

“Unless the LORD builds a house, its builders labor over it in vain;
unless the LORD watches over a city, the watchman stays alert in vain. ”
 – Psalm 127:1 CSB

This week in our staff meeting it seemed God was highlighting the work we were doing (the fullness of our calendars, the tasks on our to-do list, and the events, meetings, and programs we were running) and we sensed Him ask the question, “Are you pursuing me regarding these things?”

Obviously we have an incredible staff; all of whom love the Lord dearly. And yet, it’s a little scary how easy it is to slip into doing things in our own strength. Whether it’s fueled by our busyness (no time to stop and ask God), our desire for control (this is how I want it done), or compartmentalization (God takes care of my eternal salvation and I handle everything else); it is easy to slip into a pattern of building without God. 

In response to what God is highlighting, we are making real and practical changes to our schedules, calendars, and to-do lists. It’s not dramatic or sensational. But it is intentionally making time to seek God in prayer for everything we’re doing. Not just a quick quiet-time in the morning and then off I go in my own strength, but a constant communion with Holy Spirit so we can sense him directing us throughout the day.

I want to encourage you to join us. Ask God to highlight any areas where you’ve been building without Him. And then make a plan for how you’re going to co-labor and build with Him. 

Father, thank you for caring so deeply for us. We ask that you would help us do the right things the right way–not building apart from you, but building with you. We pray that you would give us wisdom, discernment, and grace to co-labor with you and see you build our families, our lives, our communities, and our church. 
In Jesus’ name, Amen. 

Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.”
