A Spiritual Awakening Is Upon Us
“Restore us again, O God our Savior, and put away Your displeasure toward us. Will You be angry with us forever? Will You prolong Your anger through all generations? Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your unfailing love, O Lord, and grant us Your salvation.” (Psalm 85:4-7)
Hello Rock Family
It is so good to be back with you after our family hiatus to Europe. This Sunday will be Part 1 of something stirring deeply in my heart for the Church. In the words of Mr. Beaver (C.S. Lewis), “Aslan is on the move.”
I believe we are beginning to see the signs and the markings of a revival coming to America, and I strongly desire for all of us to be part of what the Lord is doing—and what He is about to do.
I recently came across a lecture by Charles Finney titled, When a Revival Is to Be Expected. In it, he lays out the signs we can expect to see both when revival is needed and when revival can be expected. Let me pause here and say this: ultimately, it is God who determines when He sovereignly pours out His Spirit in spiritual renewal and revival. That said, according to Charles Finney, and I strongly agree, there are indicators of God’s providence that reveal His purposes and His timing.
In this lecture, Finney identifies seven indicators that, if present, point toward an imminent spiritual awakening and revival of the Church. What struck me was how clearly these seven indicators have been highlighted for us here at The Rock throughout the first half of 2026. As I reflected on them, I felt the same kind of anticipation a child feels when Christmas is only a few days away and the presents are almost here!
With this in mind, my prayer is that we would be like the Sons of Issachar (1 Chronicles 12:32), who not only understood the times in which they lived but also knew what they should do. They knew how to respond.
God doesn’t work alone. There is always a part for us to play. When a surfing wave begins to form, the surfer must begin paddling and position himself to catch the wave. In the same way, God has given us conditional promises through Scripture that require our response – our “Cause” in order to experience His promised “Effect”.
Biblical scholars, much smarter than me, have identified approximately 1,600 conditional statements in Scripture where God’s response is connected to our obedience. That’s a lot! Here are a few examples…
2 Chronicles 7:14 “IF my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, THEN I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
Matthew 6:14 “IF you forgive others, THEN God will forgive you.”
Romans 8:13 “For IF you live according to the sinful nature, [THEN] you will die; but IF by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, [THEN] you will live.”
As we celebrate our freedom this July 4th, may we also seek the Lord for the awakening and revival He desires to bring to His Church…a revival that will lead to even greater spiritual freedom in Christ.
“It is for FREEDOM that Christ sets us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1)
Lord Jesus, thank you for coming to set us free from every yoke of bondage and to revive us again so that we may rejoice in You. We need a mighty move of your Spirit to awaken and revive the church. May many repent, turn to You as their living Savior, and receive the freedom you died for! Amen.
Happy 4th! I love you all and hope to see you for breakfast and our family service this Sunday!
