A Life of FAITH is Driven by LOVE and Inspired by Enduring HOPE

“We always thank God for all of you, remembering you in our prayers and continually recalling before our God and Father your work of FAITH, your labor of LOVE, and your endurance inspired by HOPE in our Lord Jesus Christ.”  

1 Thess 1:2-3

Dear Rock Family,

I was encouraged last Sunday by the conversations and challenges that took place after Pastor Andrew took us through Psalm 136 and then recounted what the Lord had done at The Rock over the past 5+ years.  If you haven’t already, I want to encourage you, to write your own version of Psalm 136 as was suggested by Taylor towards the end of the Sunday service.  This will strengthen our faith and our eternal enduring hope in Christ . This was a great lead up into what we are sensing for this Sunday…living a life of faith in Jesus.  When we recount all the Lord has done in our lives and throughout history, our faith is strengthened to do God’s will!  God’s Word tells us many times that the righteous (in Christ) will live and walk by faith.  But how do you actually live out a life by faith?  Well glad you asked! 😊

Multiple scriptures show us that there is a significant connection in the Bible between Faith, Love, and Enduring Hope.  (1 Cor 13:13; Col 1:4; 1 Thess 1:3; 1 Thess 5:8; 2 Tim 3:10; Titus 2:2)  And though Faith/Love/Hope are each unique, they act together as one!   For you can’t effectively have one without the others.  But it begins with Faith…in Jesus Christ.  If our faith is in anyone else or anything else, it will not live nor last!  Jesus is the author, the beginning, the alpha, the preeminence, the founder, the cornerstone, the firstborn among the dead, the originator, the pioneer of our Faith AND He is also the perfector, the end, the omega, the completer, the finisher, the consummater of our Faith!  (Hebrews 12:2)  May we never put our faith in our own abilities, in anything of this world, or in anyone else! 

As we walk out our days in Faith, with our eyes on Jesus, our hearts will be encountered by the love of God through the Holy Spirit in us!  And in response to His love and power working within us, we will begin to live lives motivated and driven by love, because our God is love! (1 Jn 4:8)   Galatians 5:6 says, “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love“.  Faith in operation is the expression and action of God’s love in us to one another!  Said another way, loving one another is the work of faith in Christ.  So if our faith is not accompanied by this action of loving others, then we must question whether we are truly living by faith.  (James 2:17)

And it is the enduring and inspiring hope of our salvation and eternal life with Jesus that sustains us in ‘fighting the good fight and running the race of faith’ that Paul describes in 2 Tim 4:7.  For if it were all to end here on this earth, then what faith would we be holding on to?  But thanks be to our God for His enduring and inspiring Hope that anchors us in Christ, matures our character, and secures our eternal salvation as we live lives of Faith, trusting in the Word of God, advancing the gospel of truth, and loving one another no matter the cost! 

I am so encouraged by what I am seeing in the lives of those at The Rock – through our times of prayer and fasting, discipleship groups, and our intentional missional living!  I echo the words of Apostle Paul over you… “We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your FAITH in Christ Jesus and of the LOVE you have for all the saints – the FAITH and LOVE that spring from the HOPE that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the Gospel that has come to you.” Col 1:3-4

May you continue in the Faith, driven by Love, and inspired by enduring Hope!  I love you all!
