The Cause and Effect of Humbling Yourself in the Sight of the Lord
“Humble yourselves in the sight (presence) of the Lord and He will lift you up.”
James 4:10
Rock Family,
Well, 2025 is about to come to an end…the door is closing…forever! 😊 Before it does, I want to encourage you to come to pray and worship ONE LAST TIME in 2025 at the Lighthouse Prayer Room tonight (Wednesday) with live worship from 7-9pm…. and stay as late as you like. What a great way to close out 2025 and bring in 2026.
Have you ever heard the phrase “cause and effect”? The point of this is to give understanding that some things don’t just happen, it takes a ‘cause’…an action…before something goes into ‘effect’. Examples: If you don’t water a plant, it will die. If you drop a glass, it will break. If you speed, you will get a speeding ticket…eventually 😊 If you don’t work, you run out of money. If you sow to the flesh, you reap destruction; if you sow to please the Holy Spirit, you will reap eternal life. (Galatians 6:8.)
If we want to see a positive change in our relationship with the Lord, – seeing more signs and miracles, experiencing more peace, having more joy, walking in more love, etc…, THEN there needs to be a ‘cause’ (a change in what you sow into), that will ultimately result in a new ‘effect’…something that will result in a change in the outcome in your life.
A famous quote attributed to Albert Einstein says, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result.” I want to propose to you that HUMILITY is a ‘cause’ under God’s kingdom principles that, if applied, will have a dramatic ‘effect’ on your life and will change the trajectory and outcome of your life now and in the age to come!
In 1895 Andrew Murray wrote a small devotional book titled Humility which has since become one of the most impactful books on the subject with an estimated 2 million+ copies sold. In this book, Murray describes humility as an entire dependence on God; the disappearance of self in the vision that Christ is ALL; and the root of all virtue characterized by quietness of heart and a servant’s attitude – allowing God to be everything in us as we recognize our nothingness and God’s fullness – thus making room for Him to work in our lives. What a great way to explain humility! May we meditate on this and allow the Spirit to lead us into greater humility!
Lord Jesus, As we enter into 2026, help us by your Spirit to increase in humility and decrease in pride. Show us areas of our lives where we are focused more on self than on You. We ask You to lift us up and have Your grace upon our lives as we humble ourselves in Your sight…in Your presence. May pride not be a ‘cause’ that puts us in opposition to You. (James 4:6) But may our dependence upon You increase. May we be so aware of the leading of Your Spirit, that it would take precedence over every fleshly desire, every fear, every worry, every need, and every worldly pleasure so that our lives produce an eternal fruit…a fruit that will last and not be destroyed. (Matt 13:22-23 & Jn 15:16) Amen!
May you walk in the blessings and favor of the Lord in 2026! I love you!
