Speed Ahead and be Honored

”Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you, ‘
– 2 Thessalonians 3:1

“And the word of God continued to increase, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith.
– Acts 6:7

Over the last few weeks these two verses have been in heart and in my prayers.

I’ve been praying, like Paul asks, that the word of the Lord would go out and be honored everywhere it goes.  That as the church (the body) shares the Gospel, it would be recognized as truth and seen as authoritative.

I’ve been praying that it would go out quickly and “speed ahead”, and “continue to increase”, that we would seize every opportunity to share with others about the hope that we have; rather than procrastinating or being timid.

What we see in Acts 6 is that as the word of God increased there came with it a great multiplication of disciples. Praise God! The word of the Lord is faithful to accomplish its purpose, it’s powerful for the pulling down of strongholds, and it is capable of changing even the hardest hearts.

The second half of verse 7 points out that even the Jewish priests were being converted and becoming “obedient to the faith”.  It’s worth noting that in that time the Jewish priests were the most arduous opponents of the Gospel.  Even though Roman soldiers were the ones that nailed Jesus to the cross, it was the Jewish Priests that lobbied for it. And even though Rome would later arrest many of the apostles, it was Saul of Tarsus with the blessing of the Jewish leadership that was hunting down Christians to persecute them.

I’m encouraged that the Gospel is powerful enough to change people who, in the natural, seem so opposed to God and His ways. Would you join me in praying these verses over our families, workplaces, communities, and Colorado as a whole. Would you declare today that the word of God would continue to increase and that there would be a great multiplication of disciples that become obedient to the faith?

Let’s do our part to help the word of the Lord speed ahead.

Have a blessed week,
Andrew Nemeth & The Rock Staff
