Interacting With The Scriptures

In this email, I want to bring you into something we have been doing with our discipleship groups over the past couple of months.  It is a simple tool called SOAPS, which stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer, Share.  I have personally experienced the power of this tool, not only in my own life, but in the lives of others.  Over the next three days (before Sunday), I want to challenge you to try doing a SOAPS and as you share this with others (the last S of SOAPS), try to include at least one person who is not a believer.  This is a great way to share Jesus!

Here is what you do…pick a Scripture of the Bible (a verse or a couple of verses) that may have caught your attention and write it out.  Then write an Observation of what you see from these verses.  Then look at how you can Apply what you observe to your own life.  And then write out a Prayer, asking the Lord to give you the power to accomplish based on your Observation and Application.  And finally, Share this for others to enjoy!  I have been so touched by reading the SOAPS of others!

As an example, here is a SOAPS I did last Saturday with some slight adjustments…

Scripture:  Ephesians 3:16-19  “I pray that out of the spiritual abundance of His glory, that He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in and inhabit your hearts through faith.  Then you, being rooted and grounded in love, will have power, together with all the saints, to comprehend (intimately understand) the length and width and height and depth of the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge and understanding, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

Observation:  Jesus gives us His power, the Holy Spirit, to strengthen our minds, our character, and our inner being by revealing the Word, which is His truth, so that we, by faith, can take hold of His ways and live by them.  And as we live our lives by faith (taking hold of and living in obedience to what is revealed to us by the Word and the Spirit), we become rooted in the LOVE of Jesus and this becomes the foundation for our lives!  And this gives us the power and strength to live the life God designed for us and to carry out tasks the Lord gives us that are impossible to do without Him.  It is only through the intimate knowledge and understanding of His Love within us, that we are able to live beyond human reasoning and in His supernatural power.  And this is so God is able to fill us even more with Him, that we may be even more Christ-like…bring us into greater oneness and an increasing glory that comes as the Spirit fills us…from one level of glory to the next!  Ultimately this is so we can be a Dwelling Place…a Resting Place…which is what God desires for each of us!

Application:  I want to steward the power and strength He gives me as He reveals His daily plan for my life. I realize that it is not only the big decisions of life that God is interested in and speaking into.  I want God to lead me in every area of my life…that my daily actions and words and thoughts would be grounded in His love so that through His love as my life-source, I would experience His supernatural power operating in my life.  I want to increase my times of meditating on His words and then act on them, so that my thoughts and actions will be pleasing in His sight.  God plays the huge part in this partnership, but my part is critically important to the success of His plan being fulfilled in my life.  I commit to living beyond human reasoning, beyond my own desires and wants.  I desire to continually surrender all to Him and live by His daily bread…by the very words that come from God through His Spirit, and in so doing, that I may die to my own selfish wants and desires that have no heavenly value.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, Lead me and give me the power to surrender to your ways!  I want to know your love in greater measure and depth.  May your power and strength and wisdom and understanding, given by your Spirit, empower me to live my life daily by faith as I hear your word and obey. I pray that my life would be an example to others of what Jesus meant when He said, “Follow me!”  I surrender my will and my emotions and my ways to you Jesus.  Holy Spirit, lead me in the ways of Christ every moment of every day. That not a day would be wasted on worldly things, but that I would operate in the power of the Holy Spirit, being filled to the fullness of God by the Spirit…living in ever-increasing glory which is your presence and love manifested supernaturally in my life.  Amen!

I pray this blesses you and that you encounter His love in increasing measure this week!
