Expecting Greater Glory

7 The old way, with laws etched in stone, led to death, though it began with such glory that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses’ face. For his face shone with the glory of God, even though the brightness was already fading away. 8 Shouldn’t we expect far greater glory under the new way, now that the Holy Spirit is giving life? 9 If the old way, which brings condemnation, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new way, which makes us right with God! 10 In fact, that first glory was not glorious at all compared with the overwhelming glory of the new way. 11 So if the old way, which has been replaced, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new, which remains forever!
– 2 Corinthians 3:7-11 NLT

When Moses received the law (old covenant) from God on Mt Sinai, his face shown with the glory of God. Paul, writing to the church in Corinth, makes the point that we should raise our expectations for even greater glory now that we live under the much greater new covenant.

I think my expectations for life with Holy Spirit have been set too low. Maybe, like me, your expectations have been set by books, teachings, or programs that placed a higher premium on understanding rather than on faith.

As I think about Jesus’ ministry very few of his teachings were based on understanding. If anything, he often taught in ways that were intentionally difficult to understand (parables). But a central theme in all of his teachings and discussions was faith

And we know that faith is the confident expectation of something that we haven’t seen yet.

In light of this, I’m encouraged this week to expect to experience more of God’s glory from this new covenant. Let’s raise our faith, and lean less on our own understanding.

Father, would you grant us more faith as we hear Your word. We pray that our expectation would grow to see You glorified in our lives, our families, our work, and our communities. Thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit to fill our lives. Thank you that we are no longer ruled by laws written on stones, but instead you’ve inscribed your law upon our hearts.
Thank you for being so incredibly generous.

I look forward to seeing you all soon,
Pastor Andrew & The Rock Staff
