A Household That Seeks God Together

Rock Family,

I’ve been thinking this week about a simple description of Cornelius in Acts 10. Scripture tells us that “he was a devout man and feared God along with his whole household” (Acts 10:2 CSB). I love that his pursuit of God wasn’t isolated or private—it was shaping his household. And when Cornelius learned that Peter was coming with a message from the Lord, he didn’t keep it to himself. He gathered his relatives and close friends together.

When Peter arrived, Cornelius said, “Now we are all here in the presence of God to hear everything you have been commanded by the Lord.” (Acts 10:33 CSB). What a beautiful picture of a family pursuing God together: We are here. We are together. We are in the presence of God. And we are ready to hear what He has to say.

I think there is something important for us in that posture. Our faith is deeply personal, but it isnever meant to be entirely individual. God has purposely placed us in families, households, and communities where our love for Jesus can strengthen one another. What might happen in our homes if we became more intentional about seeking God together—praying together, opening the Scriptures together, worshiping together, and simply making room to hear what the Lord is saying?

This Sunday we have the privilege of welcoming our special guest, Jake Hamilton, who will be sharing with us about strengthening our families. I want to encourage you to come with the posture of Cornelius: gather the people you love and come ready to hear from the Lord together. My prayer is that God would strengthen our Godly friendships, marriages, our relationships with our children, and our homes—and that The Rock would increasingly become a church made up of households that genuinely pursue Jesus together.

Father God, would You strengthen our families – both biological and spiritual – and turn our hearts toward You and toward one another. Give us homes where Your presence is welcomed, Your Word is heard, and Jesus is loved and obeyed. Holy Spirit, teach us how to pursue You together and help us become people who can say, like Cornelius, “We are all here in the presence of God to hear” what You have to say. We love You, Lord. Amen.

Be blessed,
Pastor Andrew & your Rock Staff
