ROCK WEEKLY – What’s Your Motivation?
|Hello Rock Family,
If you would like to get baptized this Sunday, please email us at Family@therock.org.We know that as Christians, our lives are to represent Jesus and give glory to God. Yet no matter how hard we try, we seem to eventually mess up. I believe our lives often look like the disciple Peter’s life with Jesus…a rollercoaster of “Got it!”… “Missed it!”. It is mind-blowing that while Peter was walking with Jesus for 3 years, he would mess up continually, to the point of even denying Jesus 3 times! It wasn’t until after Jesus was crucified, resurrected, and seated at the right hand of the Father that things changed for Peter. What changed? Jesus sent the Holy Spirit! (Jn 16:7) I believe the indwelling of the Holy Spirit empowered Peter to live in the divine character and nature of Jesus!
Today I believe there are many people who call themselves Christians and who love Jesus, but have never surrendered their lives to Him…they are still living for themselves. Jesus says in Luke 14:33 “Anyone of you who does not give up EVERYTHING they have cannot be My disciple.” He reiterates it again by saying “Unless you die to yourself, you cannot have life in Christ.” (Jn 12:24) And the Word says it again Gal 5:24 – that you must crucify your own passions and desires if you are to live in Christ. Jesus isn’t calling us to live comfortable lives, love Him, and just get through life without any major sins. That is NOT what He died for.
Jesus through the Holy Spirit is calling us into deeper waters – uncharted and out of our control. Let me repeat that – uncharted and out of our control! If you are living in charted waters and trying to control your day and your surroundings, it is time for a change. It is in our dying to worldly things and selfish desires that the Holy Spirit is able to resurrect us to live supernatural lives through His divine power – demonstrating the glory of God and revealing His nature and character in a tangible manner every day and in every way! Outside of this, I believe we are living short of that God has for us. We have been tricked into believing that the abundant life only exists when we get to heaven.
So may we crucify our fleshly desires and enter into the life Jesus came to give us – here and now and for eternity. May we live and move and have our existence by the Spirit – which begins with love. May this be the motivation of our life! Those who live in the Spirit will have life everlasting from the Spirit. (Gal 6:8)
