LIVE INTENTIONALLY

“…Live as children of light…and find out what pleases the Lord…Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise, but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is…be filled with the Spirit.”     Eph. 5:8,10,15-18

Take careful note of this – The ONLY way we can live intentional lives, rightly before God, is with our eyes on King Jesus, following His lordship and obeying His commands in every way as we are filled with the Holy Spirit who leads us and reveals all truth – the Lord’s will!  1 John 2 tells us that if we claim to live in Jesus, we MUST walk as He did on the earth.  Jesus lived with extreme intentionality while on this earth and ONLY did what He saw the Father do!

         –  John 5:19 “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.”

         – John 6:38 “For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will.”

To be honest, when I read that I must walk as Jesus did on earth, my first reaction is, ‘This is impossible!  Who can walk as Jesus did?’  But then I go to the Scriptures…Philip 4:13 verse comes to mind: “I can do ALL THINGS through Christ who gives me strength.”  The beauty of living intentionally, is that although we must ‘make every effort’, ‘stand firm’, ‘run with perseverance’, ‘fight the good fight’, ‘don’t grow weary in doing good’, etc…, all of what we are to do can only happen through Christ in us!  I know we know this in our head, but intentional living happens when this goes from our head to our heart and from our heart to our hands and feet!

The Lord commissioned Joshua to cross the Jordan and take territory, but also gave him specific instructions on how to live with a new level of intentionality.  God told Joshua to ‘be strong and very courageous’ and then He provided the way to do this…’be careful to obey all God’s commands and to meditate on the Book of the Law day and night and continue to speak the words of the Book so that he would do everything written in it.  In doing this, the Lord said Joshua would be prosperous and successful.

I want to encourage us as a church body to study, meditate on, and verbally share with others the commands that Jesus gives us throughout the Scriptures.  Oh, and by the way, we have an advantage over Joshua.  Jesus told His disciples that ‘it is for your good that I am going away’ so that the Counselor (Holy Spirit) can come. (John 16:7) This is the same promised Holy Spirit that we also receive when we repent and die to ourselves and live for King Jesus. (Acts 2:38-29)  The Spirit gives us divine power to live godly lives and actively leads us into all truth by disclosing to us everything that belongs to the Father and to Jesus!

Jesus, Thank you  for giving us your Holy Spirit.  Help us to walk in step with your Spirit that we may live with the intentionality of Jesus on this earth.  Thank you for divine strength to persevere through even the greatest storms. Thank you for spiritual wisdom and revelation to know your ways. May your favor and grace empower us to live lives of obedience to your Words by faith as we work out our salvation with the fear of the Lord.  Not our will, but yours be done. Father, we surrender our will and our ways to You so that You will work within us by your Spirit in order that we may walk with intentionality in full alignment to your good purpose for us. (Phil 2:12-13)  Amen.

I love you all and am praying for supernatural strength and wisdom as we live intentionally!
