Endurance To Win

Last Sunday, Pastor Mike shared on the theme of Endurance (standing firm), especially as it ties to our salvation, the age to come, the currents of this culture, and the Ephesians 6 spiritual armor. I want to continue this theme as we ask God to help us grow in endurance.

“So don’t throw away your confidence [faith], which has a great reward [eternal life with Jesus]. For you need endurance, so that after you have done God’s will, you may receive what was promised [salvation].”   – Hebrews 10:35-36 CSB

Nearly all of us are capable of walking, most of us can jog, but less than a fraction of a percent of us could complete an ultramarathon. And that’s interesting to me because the only difference between jogging 1 mile and 100 miles is endurance.

I’m convinced the Christian life isn’t a sprint, it’s an ultramarathon. An 80+ year-long race course of continuing to put one foot in front of the other and refusing to “throw away your confidence” so that we can “receive what was promised”

When we come to Jesus with repentance for our salvation, we are exercising faith in that moment. That’s the first step of a lifelong journey…our ultramarathon. And while there’s much more that we learn in our life with Christ, the basics remain the same from the first day to the last day: know Him, be known by Him, and make Him known.

Whether you’re just beginning, or you’re a seasoned believer, I want to pray for all of us that we grow in endurance so that we can run the race marked out for us and win the “imperishable crown” (1 Cor 9:25).

Father God, help us to increase in endurance. Help us to build spiritual muscles through repetition and conditioning. Help us to find new fascination in familiar scriptures and a renewed passion for prayer. May we have an overwhelming love that motivates us to obey You and help others. We ask that our faith would prevail under trials (James 1:3) and that we would not get tired of doing what is good (Galatians 6:9) but instead would press on towards the goal of God’s heavenly call (Philippians 3:14). Empower us with Your grace by Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Be blessed this week and persevere!
Pastor Andrew and your Rock Staff
