By ONE SPIRIT Into ONE BODY
“The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they are from ONE body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by ONE SPIRIT into ONE BODY…” 1 Cor 12:12-13a
“Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form ONE body, and each member belongs to all the others.” Rom 12:4-5
Hello Rock Family,
This Sunday will be a Family Sunday with a breakfast at 9am and then a slightly different format in the service with a more interactive and relational approach instead of a teaching. We had a lot of fun doing this last month and we are prayerful that it will be a great success again. This Sunday our focus will be on the body of Christ. I want to encourage you to read and meditate on Romans 12:3-13 and 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 in preparation for this Sunday. We are looking at this time like a family dinner. When you go to a family dinner, you often bring something to share with the rest of the family. In the same way, as we come together and “encourage one another towards love and good deeds” (Heb 10:24) may we do this with the Word in our heart! …although I want to clarify that you DO NOT need to bring anything for breakfast. 😊
We have been created by God so that we can be built together to become a dwelling for God by the Spirit. (Eph 2:22) And this requires a unity, a oneness, of the body of Christ as prayed by Jesus in John 17. Can you imagine your body fighting against itself with the left foot wanting to go one direction and the right foot wanting to go another direction and your left hand wanting to eat and your right hand wanting to drink. People would think you are crazy! Instead, your body all lines up with what your head tells your body to do. This is what God has intended for us. We aren’t meant to come up with our own plan, or our own great ideas of how we are to live our lives. We were created to submit to the head…to Jesus! Colossians 1:18 tells us that Jesus is the head of the body which is His church. This all seems pretty basic in understanding, yet when you look at the body of Christ today, I would put us more on the “crazy spectrum”. The good thing is that the Word of God gives us insight and direction on how to live our lives. And it starts with love! Romans 12:9-13 and Ephesians 4:1-4 give some good instruction as to how we are to live as one…as the body of Christ. Some of the words that jump out to me are: love, devoted, honor, joyful, patient, faithful, share, practice hospitality, humble, gentle, loving, unity of the Spirit, bond of peace.
I believe the Lord is going to give us amazing insight this Sunday as we meditate on His Word, seek His will and delight in His ways! We have a heavenly Counselor who the Lord Jesus has given us to guide us into all truth all the days of our lives and He also gives us the divine power to walk in His truths and ways.
Lord Jesus, we thank you for your unending and relentless love for us as your children. Thank you for lavishing your love on us and calling us to be part of your family…part of the body of Christ. Would you teach us how to walk humbly before you in the grace of the Spirit so that we hear your voice, submit to your ways, and live out the amazing part of the body that you have so divinely determined we should be. May it not be our will, but may your will be done in our lives, so that you receive all the glory. Amen.
I am excited to be on this journey with you and I look forward to our time together on Sunday!

P.S. Thoughts to consider as you read Romans 12:3-13 and 1 Corinthians 12:12-27
- Who determines what part of the body you are to be?
- Why are the Godly traits such as love, humility, goodness, honor, and hospitality important for the body of Christ?
- How do the decisions you are currently making in your life affect others?
- What are the most important parts of the body?
- Has division ever affected you or have you ever caused division in the body of Christ?
- What can you do individually to better play your part in the body of Christ?
