A Solemn Assembly

“Blow the trumpet in Zion! Announce a sacred fast; proclaim a solemn assembly.” 
    – Joel 2:15 CSB

Tonight we kick-off our Converge Conference. This year is very different from previous years. As opposed to past years when we have been excited about guest speakers or special worship teams, this year the focus is on a solemn assembly with an emphasis on prayer; both the crying out to God and the listening for His instruction and direction. 

Joel 2 is one of the places that we read about a “solemn assembly”, a gathering together followed by an outpouring of the Spirit.  This very same chapter gets quoted in Acts 2 where the disciples are gathered together and God pours out His Holy Spirit and the church is birthed. While we know that God isn’t formulaic, we do see promises in His word that when we call out to Him, He will respond. 

This week, as we assemble with an emphasis on prayer and with our eyes on Jesus – seeking God’s face, we are hopeful that we will build towards a John 17 unity.  We anticipate that we will see an outpouring of God’s Spirit, and that the Kingdom Net for Colorado that is being built will be strengthened and enlarged for the coming great Harvest. 

Whether your schedule allows for you to join in person with us or not, will you consider joining with us in a posture of prayer to ask God to spark the enthusiasm of churches and their leaders to embrace humility, to be dedicated to prayer, to have a hunger for God’s Spirit, and to work to make disciples? 

Father God, thank you for what you’re doing and what you’re going to do. Help us by your grace and mercy to seek you rightly. Would you stir our hearts to carry a burden for your Kingdom and for building with spiritual tools, not with earthly strategies. May you be the guest of honor this week, at the conference and in my life. Amen
