The Rock Weekly – July 23, 2025

Renew Our Minds

“Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. ”  (Romans 12:2 CSB)

“Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.” ” (Ephesians 4:23-24 NLT)

These passages charge us to renew our minds and to change the way we think in such a significant way that we are transformed–not just tweaked or slightly adjusted.  Like when a caterpillar turns into a butterfly…there is no going back.   

Last week we talked about “Beholding the Lord”. We looked at 2 Corinthians 3 which teaches us that when we behold Him, through His word and His presence, we become like Him. And becoming like Jesus is the greatest transformation we can hope for.

As we respond to the command of God, ‘to be born again’ (John 3:3) and ‘to put on the new self’ (Col 3:10), which is all transformation language, let’s be intentional about two things this week:

  1. Beholding God
  2. Renewing our Mind 

For Example: Worship the Lord, Give Him thanks, Mediate on the Word, Pray and Listen, Fasting, Obedience to the Word, Repentance (change the way you think), and you come up with some others.

Father God, in your great mercy, would you help us by your Holy Spirit to be transformed into the likeness of Christ. Would you give us a grace that empowers us to renew our minds every day and change the way we think and the attitude of our heart. Would this change result in a transformation, so that we no longer resemble the world or love the things in it, but instead may we be focused on–and committed to–You and Your Kingdom.  Amen.

Let’s continue to be sensitive to how God’s Spirit is transforming us as individuals and a church family.
