Join a Group FAQs

What if I am a small group skeptic?
Christ calls Christians to a life-long journey of faith. This journey was never intended to be traveled alone because it seems to be contested every step of the way with conflict and temptation. Being in a small group provides companionship and community for the journey. (Acts 2:42-47; Hebrews 10:24-25; Colassians 3:16)
What should I expect within a group?
Meetings have a relaxed atmosphere centered around Christ-centered relationships, Bible study and prayer. Groups are encouraged to develop a plan that is designed to clarify expectations and keep the group on track. Each group determines its own meeting style and format.
Are all groups the same?
All small groups share some similarities, but each group takes on its own personality based on members’ interests, curriculum studied and developmental stages each group goes through.
When and where do groups meet?
Most groups meet in the evenings (either weekly or bi-weekly) in the home of one of its members. There are groups in communities throughout Castle Rock and surrounding areas.
How do I get connected?
Some groups are formed through association with one another, through various activities or classes within the church, while others are connected through the home groups ministry team by placing them into a group with openings matching parameters on the member profile form.
When is the best time to join a group?
Experience has shown that the best times to join a small group are in September ad January, when groups have the largest number of openings. In between those times, we will make every effort to place you in a group as soon as possible.
How long does it take to get into a group?
Once we get your member profile form, we assess your information and determine if we have an opening in an existing small group or if we need to assist in establishing a new small group. This can take a few weeks to a few months. We will stay in touch with you through the process.
Will I have to wait to join a small group?
Often the demand for small group participation is greater than the supply of leaders. For this reason, there may be a period of time before a opening becomes available. If you are waiting to join a group, you may want to investigate other opportunities to connect with people:
• Sunday morning classes
• Weekday Bible studies
• Various service opportunities
• Discovery Class that provides information about The Rock and what is required to become a member of the church.
What is the commitment?
We encourage you to visit a group once or twice to determine if the group is a good fit for you. If the group fits, please commit to completing one study (about 6-7 meetings) before reassessing. If for some reason the group does not work for you, please let us know. We will then make every effort to find another group for you.
What about childcare?
Each group addresses this issue according to their individual needs.
Who can lead?
If you have previous small group experience, have attended a leadership training session and are a regular attendee at the Rock, you will work with our Home Groups pastor to complete the process of becoming a Home Group leader.
