In August of 1979, Jim and Kris Beaird moved to Castle Rock from Colorado Springs where they had served at Open Bible Christian Center. They had their first public meetings in the Village Inn conference room on Wolfensberger Road beginning in September that same year. From there the church moved to South Elementary School where they grew until purchasing the property on Park Street in 1987. The sanctuary and first phase of educational space was finished and the new facilities were dedicated on October 11, 1987. The Beairds pastored at the Church of The Rock until January 1988.
After several months of prayer and fasting, the congregation called J.R. and Yvonne Polhemus to pastor Church of The Rock. Over the next eighteen months, God blessed the church, which was able to come out of debt and pay Pastor J.R. on a full-time basis.
The Rock congregation has grown from this point to where we are today of consistently running about 1300 people during weekend services.
The Rock closed on 53 plus acres of land in June 2000 (See conceptual drawing below and construction photos in the
new building section), and in August 2006, we moved into a brand new 53,000 square foot facility with an 850-seat sanctuary, a state of the art Children's Wing featuring The Ark, a modern Youth facility, and adult education and administrative offices.
